The wait is over. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is finally available to stream on Netflix, and chances are you’ve already finished watching the six-part series. Now, you probably have questions that you need answers to. As always, you can count on us!
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a prequel to the hit Netflix period drama Bridgerton. It centers on the fan-favorite Bridgerton character Queen Charlotte and tells the story of how she became queen. It also shows how Queen Charlotte and King George III’s love story came to be.
And we can’t forget the origin stories of Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton. The prequel series explores their stories as well. But the show doesn’t just stay in the past. Viewers also get to see where these characters are in the present.
So when does Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story take place? Find out right below.
05/06/23 UPDATE: We initially put that the present timeline takes place in 1817 because of a major event that happens in episode 1. But Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is believed to take place sometime between Bridgerton season 2 and Bridgerton season 3. So, the year would be 1815.
As we mentioned above, the show is split into two timelines: the past and the present. The past timeline is set in the 18th century. More specifically, the year 1761. A young Queen Charlotte meets a young King George III for the first time and is married to him shortly after. On the other hand, the present timeline takes place in the 19th century in the year 1815. In the present, Queen Charlotte pesters all 13 of her kids about marrying respectable husbands and wives so that they can produce a royal heir and continue the bloodline.
As mentioned earlier, the past timeline in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story takes place in 1761. Bridgerton season 1 is set in 1813, and Bridgerton season 2 takes place a year later in 1814. This means the prequel is set 52 years before Bridgerton season 1 and 53 years before Bridgerton season 2. But when it comes to the present timeline (the year 1815), everything happening then is believed to take place two years after Bridgerton season 1 and one year after Bridgerton season 2.
Queen Charlotte was just a teenager when she was married off to King George III against her will. In fact, she was only 17 years old at the time. Her age is mentioned in the second episode. Unfortunately, King George’s age is never mentioned in the series. However, he’s believed to be in his early 20s when he meets Charlotte.
