American writer, producer, actor, and comedian Quinta Brunson was born on December 21, 1989. West Philadelphia was the home of both Brunson’s birth and upbringing. She is the youngest of five children, as indicated by her name, which in Spanish means “fifth.” Norma Jean Brunson, her mother, was a kindergarten teacher. Her upbringing was as a Jehovah’s Witness.

Brunson rose to prominence with her Instagram series Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date, which she produced privately. Later, she co-created two streaming series with BuzzFeed Motion Pictures and produced and appeared in content for BuzzFeed Video.

Brunson has had appearances in the television shows iZombie, Single Parents, and Miracle Workers in addition to providing the voice of Lazor Wulf and the Magical Girl Friendship Squad. She also had a role in the first season of the HBO sketch comedy show A Black Lady Sketch Show.

She is the ABC comedy series Abbott Elementary’s creator, executive producer, writer, and star (2021–present). She made history by becoming the first Black woman to be nominated for three comedy prizes at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.
