James Comey is an American lawyer and the former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

He previously served as the United States Deputy Attorney General in the George W. Bush administration from 2003 to 2005. He is also a former member of the Republican Party.

He also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University Of Richmond School Of Law. James became the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York in January 2002. He became the Deputy Attorney General on December 11, 2003.

In June 2013, President Barack Obama officially announced that he would nominate Comey to be the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, replacing outgoing director Robert Mueller.
